The tournament will be held at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, PA. Participating schools will be select, based on first come first serve, one of three flights:
Flight #1 – 8:45 am Flight #2 – 12:00 pm Flight #3 - 3:15 pm (If needed)
Shooters must be at their lanes ten, (10), minutes before the assigned flight times above. To meet this line-up time requirement, school teams should arrive at the tournament registration desk at least 45 minutes before their shooting time. Parking is available on the complex’s parking lot.
WHAT
-
This tournament is the annual "culminating event" for schools participating in the NASP in Pennsylvania.

Team members must come from a single school, not a school district or multiple schools.

Teams or individuals will register in either the Elementary (4-6 grade), Middle (7-8 grade) or High School (9-12 grade) Division. A student in a lower grade may shoot for a team in his or her school district that is in a higher Division but not vice versa.

Divisions are determined by grade, as some schools have four or more grades.

Schools that are combined, (Middle / High school, Junior-Senior high school), are permitted to register a team / teams in both Divisions, provided that the team / teams are within the respective Division format.

Schools with LESS than 100 students TOTAL in all grades, are permitted to join with another NASP school within their School District.
TEAM
-
Team competition will be among schools with at least 9 archers, three of the opposite gender. The team rosters shall be submitted prior to the first practice end before scoring begins.

A team shall consist of 9 to 16 archers and the highest 9 scores, (with at least One third of the SCORES, being from the opposite gender), shall constitute the team score.

Each School may field two teams of 9 to 16 in their division.

Each School fielding two teams within a division, is required to have one team of 16, with 5 of the opposite gender.
INDIVIDUAL
-
Schools that are not fielding a team(s), may have students compete for individual grade awards.

There is no limit on the number of students from a school or grade that may compete for grade awards.

Individual students may share a bow with another student on an adjacent lane, by shooting their arrows and then passing the bow to the student on the adjacent lane for that student to shoot their arrows. Up to four, (4), students may share a bow with-in the same flight.

Registration for the 2009 NASP tournament begins on the first Monday in December of 2008. We will only be able to accommodate 340
shooters on each flight.

Each school should provide 1 judge for every 8 competitors. Judges need
not have prior experience.

Registration and fees must be postmarked by Friday, March 12,

Completed registration forms: students name, gender, grade and division, are due by Mach 12, with March 20th, being the last day to add student names to your roster of students who will be shooting together. Students added after March 20th, may not be shooting with the rest of the schools students.

Qualified Equipment:

Only NASP Genesis compound bow (target colors or camouflage) may be used. Schools must supply their own bows, arrows, and ground
quivers. (Camouflage bows MUST have the face area of the riser, either blacked out or taped over)

The "mini Genesis" and "Genesis Pro" may NOT be used.
-
Only Easton full-length, size 1820 aluminum arrows. Schools must provide its own (full-length) 1820’s. Arrows and they
must be marked to prevent scoring confusion and to identify your school / school district. Please see
“Frequently Asked Questions” for more information.

No sights, tape, marks, or other modifications to the bow that may,
in the opinion of the judges be used as a sighting aid or draw stop.
Any marks or tape placed on the riser, above the grip of the bow,
must be removed or the bow will be disqualified. If such a bow is
used during the tournament, the archer will be disqualified.
A bow that is numbered or otherwise identified by the school or shooter with tape, such markings must be on the lower bow limbs or below
the bow’s grip.

Finger tabs, gloves, and armguards may be used.

The use of mechanical release aids, sights or stabilizers will not be
allowed.

Sims vibration dampening devices may be attached to the limbs of the
bow, but not on the riser.

Bow, Wrist or Finger Slings may be used! They may not be secured to the bow by any method.

Only the original type arrow rest is permitted!

Tie-on nock set or the heat shrink nock set are the only nock sets permitted. Metal Nock set is prohibited!
Range Set-Up:
-
Targets will be 80 cm FITA face with 10 scoring rings.
-
Target line will be approximately 6 feet from the target arrow stops.

Shooting will be 10 and 15 meters. (distances)

The waiting line will be 10 feet beyond the 15 meter shooting line.

Each shooting lane will have up to four archers.

Shooters assigned
shooting lane position as follows: A1, A2, B1, B2, by their coach.

Schools will be assigned shooting poisons as follows: (Example) School 1- Lane #1, A1, B1, lane #2 - A2, B2 = School -2 Lane #2, A2, B2, lane #3, A1, B1. Lane 1 and the last lane, will not be a bow share lanes.

Facing the targets, Shooter A1 and B1 will be on the right side of the lane and shooters A2 and B2 will be on the left side of the lane.
Competition Format
-
Each archer will shoot 1 practice end of 5 arrows at 10 meters.
-
Each archer will shoot 3 ends of 5 arrows (total of 15 shots) at 10
meters.
-
Each archer will shoot 1 practice end of 5 arrows at 15 meters.
-
Each archer will shoot 3 ends of 5 arrows (total of 15 shots) at 15
meters.
-
“A” shooters will shoot, score and retrieve an end and then “B” shooters
will shoot, score and retrieve.

"A" shooters will shoot first at 10 meters and "B" shooters will shoot first at 15 meters.

Whistle or buzzer commands will be in effect.
Scoring
-
Adults may be assigned to call arrows.
-
Middle School and High School students will call and score their
own arrows.
-
Elementary students will have an adult caller and two adult scorers.
-
Scoring is done from the center of the target out, (highest scoring arrow), first. 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, with a line in a box for a miss.
-
One student on each lane will call the arrows and both shooters will record the scores.
-
The score cards must be completed by the students with both score
keepers signature and the shooter’s signature.
-
Arrows touching or cutting a scoring ring line will be given the higher score.
-
The PA NASP will assign scoring judges for every 1-3 lanes, should enough adults are available.
-
Judges will inspect equipment for compliance before shooting begins.
-
Judges will call disputed arrows (when called upon by adult or
student scorers).
-
Judges will assure archers and scorers sign the score card before
leaving the range.
-
Schools will provide arrows for bounce outs and dropped arrows.

Students will present their score cards to the

Judges will deliver signed score cards to the scoring table.

Arrows must be travel 10 feet to be considered shot.

The coaches will be given a set of their schools score cards after they have been checked at the scoring table.
AWARDS
-
Team awards will be presented for the first, second, and third highest scoring teams in the Elementary (4-6), Middle (7-8) and High School (9-12) Divisions.

Team scores will be the sum of the 9 highest scores shot by archers from each school in each division during the tournament. At least one third, (1/3), of the team scores that are counted, will be from the opposite gender.

Individual awards, (medals), will be presented to the top three boys and
girls in each grade of the three Divisions.
TIE BREAK FORMAT
1. The first tie breaker is the 15 meter score for both individual and team.
2. The second tie breaker, (individual), is a one arrow shoot off from 15 meters, with the arrow closest to the center of the "X", being the winner.
2. The second tie breaker, (team), will be the 10th highest score.
3. The third tie breaker for teams is the 11th highest score.
4. The fourth tie breaker for teams is the 12th highest score. (Opposite gender)
5. The fifth tie breaker for teams is the 13th highest score,
6. The sixth tie breaker for teams is the 14th highest score.
7. The seventh tie breaker for teams is the 15th highest score. (Opposite gender)
8. The eighth tie breaker for teams is the 16th score.
9. The final tie breaker is a shoot off of 1 arrow at 15 meters. (The shooter will be selected by the team members), with the arrow closest to the center of the "X" , being the winner.
A team with less than 16 competitors is at a disadvantage in cases of a tie score.

1. Although it is not required, the PA NASP polo shirt with your school name and / or position would look great. PA NASP Polo and Tee shirts are available with your school name under the logo and "instructor" under the School name, (for instructors), in the left pocket area. See "store" page for details. A minimum order of 12 is required.
Frequently Asked Questions:
What constitutes a team?
For the purpose of registration, a Team, refers to a group of between 9-16 students shooting in the same division. Each Team must have at least, three, from the opposite gender. (9 = 3, 10 - 12 = 4, 13 - 16 = 5)
What is an attending school?
The attending school is the school in which the student
is actually enrolled.
What is a division?
There are three divisions in this archery tournament: Elementary 4-6, Middle 7-8 and High School 9-12. Team and individual competitions will occur within these three divisions. A divisions are determined by grade.
What is a flight?
A flight is a shooting time. There will be three shooting
times or flights during this tournament:
Flight 1 at 8:45, Flight 2 at 12:00 and Flight 3 at 3:15, (if needed).
What does it mean that arrows must be marked?
This means that during an archery tournament arrows need
some type of identification marking on the fletches or arrow shafts. This prevents confusion when scoring arrows and assists schools in identifying their school / school district's arrows. By simply using a permanent marker you can write the school initials or school name directly on one fletch of each arrow. Small crest wraps, (2 inches in length), are be available to
schools.
What is a lane set?
A lane set consists of two students who will shoot in a lane together on the day of the tournament. A lane set from one school may be paired with a lane set from another school to form a shooting lane. Lane sets will automatically be created when you reserve your flight time.
What if my Flight preference is unavailable?
Flights are available on a first come first serve basis.
If you need more positions than are available in a particular flight,
you will have to put at least some of those positions in a different
flight. You can periodically check availability and make
reservation changes as positions may come available. You, however,
should not wait for positions to become available, instead you should go
ahead and reserve positions in a different flight to make sure that you
will have the opportunity to participate at the tournament.
Remember, positions are available first come, first serve.
What do I do, if up to four shooters will be using the same bow?
Up to four students may use the same bow and
two will be
assigned to the same lane set, with two assigned the adjoining lane set . One will be designated shooter "A1, A2" and
the other shooter "B1, B2" on each lane set.
What are 'shooter A1, A2 and shooter B!, B2?
Within a lane set, their are up to four shooters, "A1, A2" and "B1, B2". Shooters, A1 and A2 will shoot first at ten meters and shooter
B1 and B2 will shoot second and at 15 meters, shooters "B1 and B2" will shoot first and shooters"A1 and B1" will shoot second. When sharing a bow with a fellow student on an adjoining lane set, one student will shoot and then hand the bow to their fellow student on the adjacent lane set, who will then shoot and return the bow to the bow rack when done.
What happens should our school have four or more grades ?
The students in the grade or grades that are in a different division, may compete as part of a team in a higher division or, (two or more grades), may form their own division team(s) and compete for their division team championship and individual grade awards.
